WELCOME TO OUR GENEALOGY SITE
Welcome to NameTraq.com, our site for genealogy research and tracking surnames in the news. Some of you may remember us from our early days [1998 through early 2000]. Well, we're back, having relaunched the site in January 2004 with much improved features. We now draw from more than 1600 news sources in our search for articles and we have expanded our list to include more than 25,000 of the most common last names in the United States.
Our service remains free, although we rely heavily on Google Ads and select banner ads to keep the site up and running -- thank you for understanding. We will do our best to keep these advertisements to a minimum in order to keep the site as aesthetically appealing as possible.
We are still working on our search algorithms so please excuse us when we include articles that do not contain specific last names [i.e. sometimes we pick up city or college names] -- we're doing our best to bring you an excellent resource.
We plan to update the news on a bi-monthly basis -- we'd like to do it more often but we're both busy with our "real" jobs. We believe this should be sufficient to still offer a useful service. Every few months we will archive past articles to prevent pages from becoming too long. Also many of our article links go stale after a month or so so we want to reduce the frustration associated with clicking on dead links. We feel that even with dead links in the archives, these pages can still be handy in helping people find what publications contains old articles of interest.
Everytime we do an update we will post a comment on this page.
Enjoy!

Folks, we're sorry for the lack of updates over the past two months. One of us experienced an employment transition -- but now we're back and will begin a new update soon. We updated about 10,000 names files last week and will do the rest over the next two weeks. Thank you for your patience!
